Ken's Lake, Moab, UT

After the fiasco of locating a suitable camping spot the night before, we secured a spot early at Ken's Lake, just south of Moab, where we stayed for one night.  We fueled up and restocked our empty fridge and food pantry in Moab, George got a burrito at a local taco shack, and headed for camp.

Ken's Lake is a man-made reservoir developed in the 1970's for agricultural irrigation purposes, but it also permits fishing, swimming, and paddle or electric motor boating as well.

Faux Falls, in the foothills just above Ken's Lake and outside our camping area, was created in 1981 when Sheley Tunnel began delivering Mill Creek water to Ken's Lake.   I hiked up to the falls to check them out.  The spray off the falls felt wonderful in the blazing Utah sun.

Near the top of the falls I was able to look across and see our campsite and our van in the distance.

Later that evening George and I walked down to the lake.

After a day or two in the sun, heat, and dust of Moab, exacerbated by the throngs of people and 4WD's, we were ready to depart the area and find cooler respite.
