Leaving Pittsburgh

When we left Pittsburgh to head east for Thanksgiving it was snowing.  We decided it may be safer to head south into West Virginia then east since the forecast showed rain in that direction and snow across most of Pennsylvania (which would have been a more direct route).  It took us a little more than 7 hours and a short nap but we finally made it.

This one is for Ginnee.

We stopped at a rest area in West Virginia, stretched out a bit and used the facilities.  Then we climbed back into the van to continue on our way.  We made it about 20 minutes when we realized that George had forgotten his phone at the rest area.  So we turned around and went back to get it.  It was a good use of 45 minutes and 5 gallons of fuel!

Standing in front of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... it was so cold it was a little hard to breathe.

Rage Against the Machine's original touring van
One of hundreds of examples of handwritten original lyrics in the museum, in this case Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good."

Our Newest Traveling Companion

Sammy wasn't too sure about this "school bus" at first...But then we got out the table and iced animal crackers and she knew she was home! She is going to be a little disappointed when she gets on a real school bus and realizes there is no potty or snack time.

Pittsburgh Strip District

We visited the original Primanti Brothers Restaurant.  Earlier in the week we had ordered a pizza and sandwich from another of their locations.  I must say it was one of the most delicious pizza's I've had.  All the ingredients tasted so fresh and the sauce and crust were perfect.
We visited Allegheny Coffee & Tea Exchange, Wholey's Fish Market, S&D Polish Deli, PA Macaroni Company, Leaf & Bean Cigar and Coffee shop and many other  shops and markets in the historic Strip District.

Point State Park

"The Point" is located at the confluence of the 3 rivers in Pittsburgh - the Allegheny, the Monongahela, and the Ohio. It has been a strategic and industrial outpost for nearly 300 years.
