Stewart's Creek

We got onto the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 91 and drove for about 100 miles to milepost 191 where we had to get off the parkway because of more barricades due to snow and ice.

Along the way we stopped at Rakes Mill Pond to work on our windshield wipers some more.

By this point the wipers and the wiper motor were no longer installed on our van.  George had removed them both to see if he could fix the problem.  George was working on rigging the motor to make the wipers work until we could get to South Carolina but after 4 attempts to make the arm stay in place failed we decided to leave them alone and continue on our way.

We wanted to make it to Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Stewart's Creek Camp so we headed that way.  It took us a while to find it but then we ran into some locals who told us we were in the right place but the bridge that led to the WMA had washed away in a storm.  We decided to head for the upper side of Stewart's Creek.  It took a little while but we finally made it.

We were not sure if we were in the right camping area but after driving around for nearly two hours trying to find the place we decided we had made a valiant effort to be in the right place.  If anyone gave us trouble we would fein ignorance, although we actually were unsure of where we were supposed to be.

We had purchased our access permit so at least we weren't on WMA land illegally.
