El Paso, TX

George has never crossed the US Mexico border at an actual border crossing.  The nearest one to Las Cruces is in El Paso, TX.  My aunt and uncle were kind enough to take us for a drive to El Paso.  Unfortunately, it is no longer safe to cross the border there into Ciudad Juarez, but we were able to get very close.  Here we are driving alongside Juarez.

This bridge leads into Juarez.  You can see the American and Mexican flags marking either side of the border.

We drove to the top of the ridge to look out across El Paso and Juarez.

The red "X" in the distance is in Mexico.  In the picture below, it is vaguely visible on the right side of the horizon.

The once mighty Rio Grande has in recent years run dry due to the severe drought in the southwest.  In the photos below you can see people using the river bed as a road.
