Myakka State Forest Camp

We left Sanibel and Captiva and headed for the Flying "A" campground in the Myakka State Forest for the evening.  Flying "A", named for a historic cattle ranch that used to operate on the property, has about 20 sites and fewer than half were filled.  The campground is very nice with tall evergreens and ground covered with palmettos, and although only primitive camping facilities are available, the sites are large enough to accommodate anything from tents to large Class A motorhomes.  It's a shame more people don't utilize some of these great outdoor resources more often [they all want full electric, water, sewer and cable hookups for their tourbuses, so they flock to the "luxury RV Parks"where they park in row after row 5 feet from each other for $60-$70 a night]  Fortunately for us though we had our pick of the available sites and found one that was tucked away in the trees and very quiet. $10 a night in a nice quiet wooded site suits us just fine.
