The Henry Ford, Dearborn, MI

Today we visited The Henry Ford Museum.  There is quite a collection of stuff from cars, trains, the original Holiday Inn sign, an exhibit by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, furniture, the Dymaxion House, and much more.  Here are photos of a few things we saw.

Presidential Limousines

This is the limousine President Kennedy was riding in when he was assassinated.  Following his assassination, the Secret Service reinforced and secured the limousine with a steel roof and other modifications.

On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery Alabama, Rosa Parks sat in a middle seat on this bus and refused to move to the back of the bus.

Later that evening we went looking for Henry Ford's estate and other houses he lived in around the area.  The estate was gated closed, although tours are offered until 6pm weekdays.  we drove up and down the Boston-Edison Historic District in search of the house that was built for Henry Ford and his wife Clara, in the same year that the Model T went into production at the nearby Piquette Avenue Ford Plant.  Unfortunately, we were unable to locate it.  Here is a file photo of the house.

After house hunting we stopped in at Sajaoun Cafe for authentic middle eastern cuisine then headed out to find where Motown Records got its start.

Finally we drove south towards Woodhaven, MI for the night.  When we arrived in Woodhaven we enjoyed a fireworks show.  They must have had some left over from the previous week.
