Independence Pass at the Continental Divide, CO

We climbed through the Rocky Mountains to Independence Pass.  The Continental Divide crosses through the pass via Highway 82.  

The summit at Independence Pass / Continental Divide where we parked was 12,121 feet MSL.  According to the sign it is 12, 095 feet MSL.

We walked across the alpine tundra to look out over the snow covered mountains.

Our other motivation for stopping here was to let the transmission in our van cool down after working so hard to climb these mountains.  Once it had cooled a bit we hopped in and continued our journey towards Vail.
