Kistler Memorial Roadside Camp

We found Kistler Memorial Roadside Camp on freecampsites.net.  The description and accessibility of the available sites sounded great.  We spent nearly 2 hours the night before looking for our campsite and decided to go for something a little easier to find.  We drove through Boone, NC into Linville, NC and we really liked the area.  Boone appeared to be a ski town that that has remained true to it's wilderness roots.  All the buildings and architecture fit in with the area as opposed to competing with it.

Our GPS routed us accurately but when we got to the Linville Wilderness Gorge it was so foggy it was nearly impossible to see the road.  We made our way up the winding road and eventually found a great campsite.  Aside from the fog the location was great.

This was our roadside campsite at Kistler.

Notice the winding road.  George had to navigate that in the dense fog the night before.
